Animal magic for Pets at Home

CHESHIRE-based Pets at Home has announced like for like growth in third quarter sales of 4.1%.

In its Q3 trading statement the success has been attributed to strength in advanced nutrition, health and hygiene, its Christmas range and VIP Club.

Total revenue grew by 7.2% to £182.2m as seven new stores were opened bringing the total number of outlets to 392.

The company opened five new veterinary practices and eight groom rooms in the quarter bringing the total portfolios to 308 and 160 respectively.

Pets at Home, headquartered in Handforth, launched additional TV advertising during the period, sponsoring ITV’s ratings hit For The Love Of Dogs, with the Christmas special alone watched by 5.2 million viewers.

Chief executive Nick Wood said: “We are very pleased with the continued growth in like-for-like sales.

“This reflects the strength of our offer, the multiple levers through which we can drive growth, and the resilience of the pet products and services market.”
