Major Quay Street office development revealed

ARCHITECTS Stride Treglown have submitted a planning application for a major 16-storey head office office development in Manchester city centre.

Working for the West Midlands Pension Fund, the proposed development would in the first instance see the demolition of Astley and Byrom House on Quay Street.

The new Grade A block would be next to the Spinningfields business district and close to the former Granada TV site, which is in the hands of Allied London, the developer behind Spinningfields.

The building has been designed by a team led by director Gordon Tero at Stride Treglow’s  Manchester studio.  The proposed development  is divided into three blocks and has a stepped design – 16 storeys at its highest point adjacent to Lower Byrom Street, reducing to eight storeys adjacent to Byrom Street.

The glazed double height ground floor will open up views of the historic St John’s Gardens from Quay Street.

The proposals are going before Manchester City Council planning department in March.
