Accountant moves in for retro biller

A FIRM of accountants has acquired a niche practice specialising in retrospective billing which has recovered up to £10m for businesses and moved it into its Manchester office.
Grant Thornton has broadened its offering by taking over Recovery Cost Auditing Group (RCAG), moving its team of six to the city from its original home in Preston.
RCAG performs audits of legacy energy and telecommunications billing, identifying discrepancies from customers who have been over charged by suppliers during the past six years. They then negotiate these refunds accordingly to try to ensure the client receives the financial benefit.
North West managing partner Carl Williams said: “We are pleased to have acquired RCAG and are very much looking forward to embedding the service offering into our business.
“The team is based in Manchester but will be working with clients across the UK.
“This acquisition is part of our on-going strategy to broaden out our existing assurance offering for clients. This is a great additional service to offer our dynamic client base, freeing up funds for them to reinvest in their business and help them grow.”
RCAG head of operations Andy Gregson said: “Our first aim is to embed ourselves fully into Grant Thornton and then we will be looking to upscale and grow our offering.
“What we do is relevant to so many businesses out there, the errors the team find are traditionally not system driven nor areas that companies will necessarily identify themselves but are more analytical and further along the supply chain.
“We have identified over £10m for businesses in the past on both energy and telecommunications billing so this is a very worthwhile process.”
