East Lancs vision could bring 2,000 jobs

COMMERCIAL property investor and developer Praxis has unveiled a plan for a major economic boost to East Lancashire creating up to 2,000 jobs at a mixed site.

The proposed 350,000 sq ft development is for Whitebirk and further details of which will be provided at a public exhibition on February 24.

As part Hyndburn Borough Council’s Development Plan Core Strategy (2012), the 36 hectacre site at Blackburn Road, Knuzden, has been designed as a Strategic Regional Employment site.

Whitebirk provides the largest future employment site in Lancashire and is located in a prominent location adjacent to junction 6 of the M65 motorway.

Director and head of asset management at Praxis, Gabriel McLaughlin, said: “Against the backdrop of a tough economic environment, we are developing plans for a mixed employment development site that will act as a major boost to the local economy with the creation of up to 2,000 jobs of significant benefit to the local community.

“We are keen to ensure that the local community has the opportunity to comment on the scheme to help develop something we’re all proud of and that fulfil our objectives of attracting inward investment and creating a range of jobs for the area.”

Proposals include a hotel, offices, and space for advanced manufacturing, and warehousing on four plots.
