Mary Anne is voice of city walking tour

AN audio tour celebrating Manchester’s rich and diverse culture and voiced by DJ Mary Anne Hobbs has been added to the Manchester Walking Tours app.

Developed by magneticNorth, Manchester City Council and NOMA in collaboration with Marketing Manchester, Creative Tourist and a number of the city’s official tour guides, the app combines audio and visutal content to provide visitors and residents with a unique way to experience the city.

The app uses GPS to trigger location-base content, which means there is no need to look down at a screen, allowing the user to take in the sites as they walk.

The latest tour to be added to the app takes users on a journey to uncover Manchester’s key cultural hotspots and neighbourhoods.

It starts in the Northern Quarter and stops off at the Chinese Centre for Contemporary Art, the National Football Museum, the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester Art Gallery, HOME and Manchester Museum, finishing with the recently reopened Whitworth Art Gallery.

The app has been developed as part of Manchester’s digital strategy and has been part-funded by Arts Council England.

Marketing Manchester director of tourism Nick Brooks-Sykes said: “Manchester has a very important cultural, social and historical heritage and this app has been developed to provide visitors and locals with a unique way to interact digitally with the city and discover its untold stories.”
