Capital & Centric kicks off £2.7m Digital Village build

CAPITAL & Centric (C&C) has begun speculative construction of Digital Village, a public realm and business park project in Salford.
C&C has acquired the site facing Ordall Hall from Salford City Council and will deliver 45,000 sq ft of new-build business units and offices which will be ‘BREEAM Excellent’ offering energy-efficient workspace.
The public boulevard running through the centre of the development will link Manchester Ship Canal to Grade I listed Ordsall Hall.
It is estimated the project will create more than 100 new jobs and has been part funded by the ERDF providing more than £1.1m of investment.
Williams Tarr has been appointed to deliver the £2.7m contract and development is expected to complete by August.
C&C is currently on site with three live projections – soon to be five – this year, bringing construction expenditure to £1m per month.
Co-founder of C&C Tim Heatley, who was born and brought up in Salford, said: “We’re excited to be on site in Salford, Digital Village will not only provide efficient work space but will also complement its surroundings on Ordsall Lane including the beautiful Ordsall Hall through improved access and overall really great design.
“This development is the first scheme that we’re delivering in my home city of Salford, making it very close to my heart.”
Salford Mayor Ian Stewart said: “This is about creating new jobs, new space for businesses and a new boulevard for people to walk between Ordsall Hall and the Manchester Ship Canal by bringing a derelict piece of land back into productive use.
It’s creating a new commercial heart for Salford and building on the success of nearby MediaCityUK and Soapworks.”
