£6.8m Salford care home approved

PLANNING permission has been granted for a £6.8m purpose built extra care home for elderly residents in Salford.

Liverpool-based John McCall Architects has secured approval for the Ninian Gardens scheme, designed for City West Housing Trust.

In total, 56 modern open plan apartments will be built across three storeys on land currently occupied by a failed sheltered housing scheme.

Ninian Gardens will offer 44 one-bed apartments for two people and 12 2-bed apartments for three people.

The extra care scheme will host a range of amenities including a hairdressers, consultation suite and an assisted bathing facility.

A large lounge and dining area will be created looking onto communal landscaped gardens featuring mature trees that are being retained.

Associate at John McCall Architects, Joanne Mountfield, said: “The apartments have been designed to meet the highest standards of living for elderly residents.

“It will be a warm, welcoming, safe and inspiring place to live.

“There’s a strong focus on creating community spirit and encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors either through their balconies or the grounds that will be carefully landscaped to give a tranquil garden feel secluded from the surrounding area and roads.”

Last month John McCall Architects’ designs won planning permission for the £8m  Marwood Tower redevelopment in Kirkdale for Liverpool Mutual Homes.
