Former Library sold for £500,000

A GRADE II listed fromer library in Manchester has been sold for more than £500,000 at auction.

The building which served as Crumpsall and Cheetham Hill Library was sold on behalf of its private owners.

It is built of red brick and white limestone in an Edwardian Baroque style and the partially glazed roof also included a byzantine dome.

Stuart Cooper, director of Roger Hannah and Co said: “From the day I first inspected the property, the property was obviously something to behold in its heyday.

“Some of the original features were of the highest calibre, although in general the property was in a severely dilapidated state.

“The Library was obviously a local focal point, being in the heart of Cheetham Hill and prominently fronting Cheetham Hill Road.

“I genuinely now hope that the Library is restored to its former glory and I look forward to visiting it again to see the transformation for my own eyes.”
