DIY chain doubles in size

A NORTH WEST DIY and hardware chain has doubled in size after swooping on a rival based in North Wales.
In a deal backed by NatWest Rightway of Neston on the Wirral has bought W Bevan and Son, a seven shop chain that was in the hands of the Bevan family for 70 years. The terms of the deal wrre not dislosed.
The enlarged business will employ around 150 people at 15 stores and stock more than 12,000 different products. Turnover is more than £5m.
The businesses will continue to operate under their own brands – Rightway on the Wirral and Bevans Home and Gardens in North Wales.
Rightway was established 20 years aago as a single store in Neston and now operates from eight locations across the Wirral. Bevans operates from a headquartersin Flint and seven other stores in North Wales including Abergele, Buckley, Colwyn Bay, Denbigh, Gwersyllt, Holywell, and Mold.
David Clarke, director of Rightway, said “Bevans is a well established business with an excellent reputation in North Wales. There is a great deal of synergy between both businesses and we believe that we can use the benefits of the enlarged organisation to improve performance. We are very pleased to have completed this transaction.”
Funding for the acquisition was provided by Simon Webb and Rob Grace from NatWest Commercial Bank.
Mr Webb said: “David has built Rightway into a successful DIY chain over the last 20 years and impressed us with his knowledge of this sector. The enlarged group will benefit from increased buying power and economies of scale and we look forward to watching its development.”
