Summer completion for development at former pub site

CONSTRUCTION of a commercial block on the site of a former pub in Horwich near Bolton has begun.
Work on the 7,000sq ft development where the Greenwood Arms pub once stood on Chorley New Road has started as part of a joint venture between Nelson-based Barnfield Construction and Real Estate Development Partnerships of Salford – the first one ever between the two companies.
It will comprise four units and lettings have been agreed with Morrisons, Barnardos, Subway and Greenhalgh’s Craft Bakers and will be ready this summer.
The scheme also includes three apartments on the upper floor.
Phase two will also see the former bowling green of the pub redeveloped to provide 13 traditional three and four-bedroom homes, due for completion in Spring 2016.
Tim Webber, Managing Director of Barnfield, said: “It is our first joint venture development with Real Estate Development Partnerships. When we acquired the site, the pub had been badly damaged and had become a bit of an eyesore. The redevelopment will provide a much needed amenity in the locality and the fact that all four units are pre-let is clearly a very positive sign.”
Simon Gallanders, development surveyor at Real Estate Development Partnerships, added: “It is very pleasing to be underway and to be working with Barnfield on what will be a great addition to the area. With Morrison’s construction well underway we now look at a late summer date in which work for the residential scheme will commence. We are also on the hunt for other opportunities to add to the JV pipeline.”
