Mixed-use development plan ditched in favour of 424 homes

AN outline planning application for 424 home development in Leigh, near Wigan, has been submitted.

Approval for a mixed employment/residential scheme at Bridgewater Business Park has been in place for the last three years, but during that time there has been very little interest from business operators.

As a result, potential residential developers want it to be a solely residential development.

HOW Planning has submitted the new application on behalf of Kingmoor Park Properties.

HOW Planning association Richard Barton said: “There has been quite a lot of interest shown in the redevelopment of Bridgewater Business Park into a residential scheme, but house builders are reluctant to get involved whilst it is still classed as a mixed use site.

“We are hoping to secure a change of use in principle to entirely residential which we believe will help kick start development at what is currently an under-utilised piece of land, but one with huge potential.”
