Barratt announces 1,500 jobs boost

HOUSE building group Barratt says it is to help create 1,500 jobs with the construction of 1,300 new homes across the North West.

Barratt Developments (North West division), which incorporates both Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes (DWH) says the expansion plans follow a strong recovery in the housing market following the launch of the Government’s Help to Buy scheme.

The increase in homes built will constitute a 10% rise in the number of new builds compared to last year and includes sites at Wilmslow, Wilmslow, Macclesfield, Sandbach, all in Cheshire and Southport and Liverpool.

Regional managing director of Barratt Developments Bernard Rooney said: “We have seen demand for new homes expand very quickly over the year and the new sites we are opening mean that there will be more choice for local buyers.

“A buoyant housing market is good news for the local economy as in addition to the local construction jobs created by building the new homes, the local people who move into the new housing will also spend their wages locally.

“This means a significant boost for local retailers as well.  It’s exactly what this area needs.”

FTSE 100 listed Barratt Group sold 14,838 homes in the year to June 2014, making it the biggest housebuilder by volume in Britain.
