GMCA in link-up with LinkedIn

PROFESSIONAL network LinkedIn has joined forces with Greater Manchester’s Combined Authority to help advance its workforce’skills.

As part of #ProjectManchester and in a European-first for LinkedIn, the professional network will visit Greater Manchester from June 16 to 26 to help people add their latest skills, educaiton and employment history to their profiles, or to create a profile if they don’t have one.

LinkedIn will be visting areas in and around Manchester, including Piccadilly Gardens and Media City.

LinkedIn will use the information professionals add to their profiles, along with the jobs Greater Manchester employers post on the professional network, to identify the workforce’s existing skills; the skills required to get open jobs; the gap between the two; and the skills and jobs that are becoming more in-demand.

Cllr Sean Anstee, portfolio holder for skills for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, said: “Greater Manchester is working with LinkedIn to encourage all people who work, live and study in the region to update their LinkedIn profiles with the most up-to-date information relating to their work, skills, and education status.

“Not only can the data in LinkedIn help improve your chances of getting a job or developing your career, it can also help shape the city’s future. Greater Manchester is the first city in Europe to work with LinkedIn in this way.”

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network, with more than 364
million members globally, including 18 million members in the UK.
