AN independent Cheshire-based nursery operator has expanded its regional presence by buying its first sites in Liverpool.

Lymm-based Kids Planet Day Nurseries has acquired Liverpool Nurseries (Holdings) Ltd from funds managed by Downing LLP for an undisclosed sum.

This assets comprise The House Day Nursery, Greenbank Park Day Nursery and The Cottage Day Nursery in the city.

Kids Planet was founded in 2008 by chief executive Clare Roberts and her father John Hoban, who is chairman.

Mr Hoban’s second daughter Lucy, joined the business in 2013 as director of early years.

After first acquiring two nurseries in Warrington and Widnes, the family-owned group has grown to become one of largest operators in the region with 10 nurseries located in Crewe, Dukinfield, Hale, Lymm, Prestwich, Sale, Salford, Springhead, Warrington and Widnes.

Clare Roberts, chief executive said: “Childcare is now a way of life, a far cry from the days when friends or family would turn their nose up at the idea of leaving children to go to work. There’s now a need for parents to find nurseries that not only offer a great environment for their children but are also flexible enough to meet their own needs. We’re now very excited to be moving into Liverpool and look forward to opening more nurseries in the years to come.”

The corporate team at Manchester firm HRC Law advised Kids Planet on the deal, led by partner Mark Traynor.

Traynor said: “This is an excellent strategic acquisition for our clients., and we have no doubt that Kids Planet will be a huge success in Liverpool.”

Corporate finance advice was provided to the buyer by John Jones at Beever & Struthers, funding was provided by Barclays (led by Matt Ryan) and the sellers were advised by Mike Hinchliffe and Dan Linton at Addleshaw Goddard.
