The Protein Works in European drive

THE PROTEIN Works, the ambitious Cheshire-based sports nutrition brand, is launching four foreign-language e-commerce sites as it looks to step-up its growth.
The Runcorn-based business, which has made rapid progress since its launch in 2012, recently opening a custom-built protein bakery, is targeting customers in France, Germany, Italy and Spain with the new websites.
Its investment in the new sites has been funded by a Yorkshire Bank funding facility of more than £100,000.
The lender has also supported the launch and fit-out of the new 40,000 st ft bakery, which produces protein-infused popcorn, flapjack bars, diet truffles and pancakes.
Launched in 2012 by Mark Coxhead, Nick Smith and Karl Jacobie, The Protein Works has 45 staff and is on track to hit revenues of £10m this year.
Coxhead said: “We are excited to be increasing our market presence in key European markets and building our online community further.”
Stewart Cook, head of Yorkshire Bank’s business and private banking centre in Merseyside, said: “The Protein Works, which has become one of the fastest growing sports nutrition brands in the UK, is an ambitious and innovative business with a strong growth plan.
“One of its biggest assets is the quality of the management team who are well known in the sector and continually identify gaps in this growing and lucrative market.”
