Detailed images of £40m Wolstenholme Square scheme unveiled

THE developers behind a £40m scheme which could transform Liverpool’s historic Wolstenholme Square have released images showing the scope of their ambition.

With Liverpool’s planning committee set to rule on the proposals for the transformation of Wolstenholme Square in early September, a series of high resolution artistic renders show, for the first time, the designs by Liverpool architects Falconer Chester Hall.

The project will replace a series of poor quality, low-rise 1950s warehouses with five different blocks rising up to 10 storeys. The scheme incorporates a mixture of uses with residential, commercial, leisure and retail spaces all contained within the blocks that wrap around two sides of the square and include a new passageway through to Seel Street.

“A great deal of attention has gone in to creating buildings that stand scrutiny in their own right, but which combine to make a very cohesive group,” said Falconer Chester Hall’s managing director Adam Hall. “The focus is on quality of design, fittings and workmanship as the market expects nothing less.”

Developer Elliot Lawless of Elliot Group said that rising demand for city centre living was driving up rents, enabling developers to invest in the quality of their product.

“As Liverpool grows more prosperous residents want to express that in the quality of their homes. Even those seeking studio apartments demand the highest levels of design, fit-out and gadgetry and this development will take the market to the next level,” he promised.

The images are released just days after Elliot Group started ground investigation works on the £130m Heap’s Mill scheme and site clearance on its £25m Queensland Place student housing project, both in Liverpool.
