Appointments: JMW; Investec; DSW & more

EXPANDING Manchester law firm JMW Solicitors has made a second key hire in recent months for its business crime and regulation team with the appointment of Mike Rainford.

Rainford joins JMW as a partner from Burton Copeland where he was head of its business crime, fraud and regulatory team for more than eight years.

He specialises in fraud and regulatory issues and has over 30 years’ experience in commercial fraud, VAT and tax fraud, money laundering, trading standards and prosecutions brought by regulatory bodies.

JMW senior partner Joy Kingsley said: “Mike has a wealth of experience in all regulatory matters but particularly in tax, fraud and trading standards. He is an excellent strategic fit for our existing business crime and regulation department and his skill set will help the team develop further. We aim to recruit the best legal talent to help with the continued growth of JMW and his many clients and contacts are very welcome too.”

Rainford added: “I believe this is a great opportunity and I am excited to be involved with the continued development of JMW.”

He is the second partner to join the team in the last two months, following Derek Millard-Smith who was previously with ll Dickinson.

INVESTEC Specialist Bank  has appointed Mark Buttler to lead its Growth & Acquisition Finance (GAF) team in the north.

Buttler, who is based in Manchester,  joins Investec after eight years with private equity firm Key Capital Partners, where he was a director. Prior to Key, he spent 10 years with KPMG in its corporate finance team.

At Investec, he will focus on providing debt and minority equity financing solutions for companies generating £1m to £3m EBITDA.

He said: “Investec has an entrepreneurial culture and has been built on its strength of servicing mid-market companies. The ability to act as a one-stop-shop and provide debt and minority equity to fund buy-outs, acquisitions and organic growth plans is a clear difference in the market.”

DOW Schofield Watts, the Daresbury-based corporate finance and investment adviser, has bolstered its team with the appointment of Peter Barkley as a corporate finance executive.

Barkley joins from BDO in Manchester, where he worked in its mergers and acquisitions team.

MANCHESTER-based PlaceFirst, the build-to-rent developer, has expanded its team with four appointments and an internal promotion.

Sarah Barnicle has joined as property & lettings manager from Kingston Shaw Residential where she managed a large portfolio of properties at Grosvenor’s One Park West development in Liverpool.

New construction manager Olly Crotch was previously with Southdale and will work with PlaceFirst’s development team and oversee onsite delivery.

Ya Yang is a chartered accountant and joins from Cooperative Bank as management accountant.

Former graduate trainee Andrew Bealby has been promoted to property & lettings assistant, while architect Mike Mason has boosted the company’s in-house design studio, PlaceFirst Architects.
