Record year for law firm Bermans

LAW firm Bermans, which has offices in Liverpool and Manchester, has reported record annual fee income.

The firm attributes its 7% growth in the year to the end of June, which pushed turnover beyond £5m for the first time, to investment in new practice areas, which have boosted client numbers.

The firm has launched private client and commercial departments as well as growing its employment team over the last year. It says more confidence to do deals and invest among its small and medium-sized business clients, has also been a factor.

Fergal O’Cleirigh, head of property and finance director said:  “We have made some key appointments at a senior level which have helped us to grow our client base.   The new practice areas have expanded our offering to existing clients as well as helping us to win new business.

“Our core client base is local SMEs and improved confidence within this sector has also been a contributing factor to our growth.  Our corporate team has seen an increase in instructions for transactional work and there has been a rise in activity in the property market.

“We are also involved in several projects that involve overseas investors, particularly from China. There are very strong links between the North West and China with both Liverpool and Manchester having large and longstanding Chinese communities. This combined with a diverse business landscape and a property market which is on the upturn has created lots of opportunities for investors based abroad.”

O’Cleirigh said the firm is on the look-out for strategic acquisitions, as well as prospects for the firm.

“I am delighted with our growth and the prospects for the year ahead. We now intend to build on what we achieved last 12 months and continue to develop the business with strategic acquisitions and organic growth.”
