Exhausts firm has room to breathe

WALLASEY-based exhausts manufacturer Halliwell Industrial & Marine Silencers is set for expansion after opening a new 7,000 sq ft unit at Alfred Road last week.

The company, which was formed by Paul Gladwell and Vinny Hall in 2005, now employs 14 staff but plans to take on more as a result of its move.

Halliwell’s product range of exhaust silencer designs are built to reduce exhaust gas, air intake and allied component noise levels.

The company received a £20,000 Big Investment Grant from Invest Wirral – the council’s business support organisation – to help it to buy new machinery at the plant.

Paul Gladwell, director of Halliwell Industrial & Marine Silencers Ltd said: ”The BIG grant has enabled us to acquire new equipment which in turn is helping us to become more competitive, efficient and win more business.  We have over £200,000 of orders this month which is more than we had in the whole of our first operational year, so we are really pleased with the progress we are making.

“The company started in 2005 with a £3,000 investment from both of us and now turnover is over £1million. We won’t become complacent though. We are determined to continually improve as we grow.”

The firm said that it has also embarked on an apprenticeship scheme to develop its workforce. Its biggest client is an energy company in Salford but it also has customers in Dubai, Russia and Ireland.

Cllr Andrew Hodson, Wirral Council’s Cabinet Member for regeneration and planning said: “The Invest Wirral team has worked closely with Paul and Vinny supporting their growth by helping to find larger premises and facilitating a Big Investment Grant.

“I am pleased that this support has already made a positive difference with an ever expanding order book and plans to recruit more staff.  It is businesses like Halliwell that keep the country going in these difficult economic conditions and we will do all we can to support them.”
