Construction skills centre to open in North Liverpool

A CONSTRUCTION skills centre will open in  North Liverpool in 2016, thanks to a £97,000 grant from a property charity.

The facility will enable young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to receive vocational training and prepare for the workplace.
The grant from property industry charity LandAid will be used to refurbish the ground floor of the technical block at North Liverpool Community College, to provide an alternative environment for young people underachieving or at risk of exclusion from school.
The renovation will include the creation of three trade-specific training areas (plumbing, tiling and plastering) and two classrooms.
Once complete, the centre will give 60 young people a year experience and qualifications in construction. Opportunities for apprenticeships and links with local employers will also be offered.
Renovation work is expected to begin in October and the centre is due for completion at the end of January 2016.
Phil Knibb, chief executive of Alt Valley Community Trust, said: “The support from LandAid will enable us to create a bespoke Construction Skills Centre at North Liverpool Community College.

“The centre will provide an exciting and innovative learning facility for young people, inspiring them to learn and supporting their employment goals within the construction industry.”
Paul Morrish, chief executive of LandAid, said: “At a time when there is a skills shortage in the construction industry, projects like this provide a real grassroots solution, whilst at the same time helping to improve the lives of vulnerable young people.

“I would like to thank the staff at the 100 companies that support us and help us raise over £1.5m for good causes, every year. Without your help we wouldn’t be able to make such great things happen.”
