LHS moves into Observatory

MANCHESTER law firm LHS Solicitors has moved into new Grade A premises at The Observatory on Cross Street.

The £12m turnover firm moved from Queens Chambers, John Dalton Street and taken 7,094 sq ft in the heart of Manchester’s central business district following the merger of Abbey Legal Services with Lewis Hymanson Small earlier this year.

LHS now employs 120 staff between offices in Manchester, London and Croydon and  and is aiming to triple fee income within five years.

The company is part of the US insurance and investment company Markel Corporation which provides the Manchester-based firm the backing and resources of the NYSE-listed organisation.

LHS is nationally recognised for its expertise in regulatory and criminal law and acts for the Police Superintendents’ Association of England & Wales and the Chief Police Officers Staff Association (CPOSA).

In March, the firm won Medium-sized Law Firm of the year and Regulatory Team of the Year in the prestigious Manchester Legal Awards 2015.

LHS managing director Richard Candy said: “Being right in the heart of Manchester is perfect for us as we focus on scaling up activity in four key areas: regulatory and criminal, telephone legal advice, business and corporate legal services.”

Senior partner Ian Lewis said:“We are delighted to have concluded the deal to occupy more than 7000 sq ft in the heart of Manchester. We are proud of our new space and our staff and clients are excited about the continuing development and success of our practice.”

Savills was the commercial office agent on the move.
