Gateway site ripe for residential development

A PROMINENT site on one of the key routes into Manchester is being marketed for residential development.

The 1.46acre site bordering Medlock Street and Little Peter Street sits opposite the new cultural and leisure facilities of First Street and is seen as one of the city’s most visible and exciting development opportunities.

It is owned by Manchester City Council which is keen to see residential led development “of height and scale” as part of the wider First Street development framework.

Little Peter Street presents an opportunity to build on the existing activity of First Street and link through to neighbouring areas of Great Jackson Street and Castlefield.

Deborah McLaughlin, chief executive of Manchester Place, the partnership bidding to drive top quality residential development in the city, said: “This is one of the best sites available in Manchester and presents a unique opportunity to create something really special.

“The site sits opposite the new cultural and leisure area of First Street, it has river frontage and the potential to create hundreds of high quality new homes to meet on-going demand.

“The site is being marketed nationally and internationally and we look forward to hearing from developers who share our ambition so we can work together to create a high quality new neighbourhood.”

Expressions of interest are being sought by noon on Friday October 9.
