Public to get say on Carrington masterplan

A CAMPAIGN has been launched to seek feedback from local residents, businesses and community groups on their aspirations for the Carrington estate in Trafford, Manchester.

Future Carrington is being led by HIMOR, the owner of the 1,660 acre estate, in partnership with Trafford Council.

The scheme will see a masterplan for a new mixed-use community developed. This vision will then be brought forward in stages, regenerating the former Shell site and surrounding area.

An online community hub – www.futurecarrington.com – is being launched today, where visitors can complete a survey and register to be kept updated as a vision for the future of Carrington is created.

Development of a mixed-use community will unlock unrivalled investment into Trafford, creating a lasting economic legacy and contributing to the Northern Powerhouse.

Paul Stanley, director at HIMOR, said: “This is a real opportunity to help shape the future. We want to get people involved at this early stage to understand what their hopes are for the area and how we can lay the foundations for the future of Carrington.

“Carrington was once at the heart of the area’s industrial heritage – a place where thousands worked and lived. We want to create a vision that will deliver new opportunities and a community that people can be proud of.

“We are pleased to be working alongside Trafford Council to produce a vision which will include homes, jobs, transport links and services for Trafford.”

Executive Councillor for Economic Growth and Planning at Trafford Council, Michael Young, said: “Future Carrington is an opportunity to deliver genuine transformation and we are excited to be working with HIMOR on what is a flagship vision for Trafford Council.

“This partnership will see long-held aspirations to regenerate the former Shell site advanced, with the aim to create a lasting legacy for the local community and the wider area.

“The potential for this project to create new jobs and attract unprecedented investment is substantial, and we look forward to developing the Carrington vision with the local community.

“We would encourage people to get involved in this initial Future Carrington conversation and have their say on their hopes and priorities.”
