England cricket captain to launch legal drop-in centre

ENGLAND cricket captain Alastair Cook is to officially open a new legal advice centre in Manchester this evening (Wednesday, November 11).

He will be the guest at his official sponsor Slater and Gordon’s new drop-in surgery at its flagship office in Manchester where people can call in without an appointment and speak to trained advisers.

Serious or urgent cases will immediately referred to a specialist lawyer at the firm.

There will also be regular surgeries staffed by experts specialising in particular areas such as clinical negligence, road traffic collisions, employment and family law.

Since its launch in September, the surgery has averaged around 100 visitors per day.

Neil Kinsella, head of general law at Slater and Gordon, said: “The feedback we’ve received so far has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We have many clients who are happy to contact us online or over the telephone, but for some there’s no substitute for the personal touch.

“Not only is it quick and convenient, but the informal setting and face-to-face contact make the whole process of speaking to a lawyer a lot less daunting.

“It can often be about complex or sensitive matters and we want our clients to feel as comfortable as possible.”

The surgery, on the ground floor of the Mosley Street office, underwent an innovative makeover before being opened to the public last month.

It includes private meeting rooms, a seating area where people can read legal literature at their leisure and an activity corner for kids.

It is the latest venture for the firm which now 27 locations across the UK and employs more than 700 people in Manchester alone.
