Turnover tops £10.7m for 147-year-old Stephensons

STOCKPORT-based catering equipment supplier Stephensons has acquired a 13,500 sq ft warehouse after taking its 100,000th online order.

The family business, now in its 147th year and its fifth generation has grown its revenue by 34% to above £10.7m during a period of expansion.

Staff numbers at the catering supplier have doubled to 80 since 2005, including the expansion of its customer services department from four to 10 people in 2015.

Stephensons says high demand from customers across the UK led the company to invest in an 18-tonne lorry, as well as a fleet of 10 vans, and its 2015 catalogue was the biggest to date, providing 1,923 new product lines.

Managing director Henry Stephenson said: “We have enjoyed major growth in 2014/15 and the benefits have been passed on to our customers. Online sales have reached an impressive milestone and the business has continued to grow.

“Stephensons’ customers know that to keep up with dining trends, it is essential to embrace the kind of innovations that we have been bringing to the UK market for nearly 150 years.

The acquisition of the new warehouse is an exciting development that will help Stephensons continue its growth throughout 2016.”

Founded in 1868, Stephensons supplies operators with light catering equipment from glassware and tableware to clothing, to commercial kitchen appliances, as well as janitorial supplies and disposables.
