AccorHotels takes over Portland

THE management of the Portland Hotel in central Manchester, formerly operated by Thistle, has been taken over by AccorHotels, ahead of a planned £3m revamp of the facility.
It doubles AccorHotels’ room-count across the UK and Ireland to 2,031.
The hotel will be rebranded the ibis Styles Manchester Portland Street hotel, overlooking Piccidilly Gardens and will be operated under a management agreement with Amaris Hospitality.
It will undergo an extensive investment funded by Amaris Hospitality to transform it into the “unique energetic spirit of an ibis Styles”.
During the refurbishment period, the hotel will continue to trade under its current name, The Portland Hotel. The refurbishment is expected to finish in summer 2016.
The actual building will continue to by owned by Amaris Hospitality, which owns Thistle.

The significant increase in the number of rooms under the ibis Styles brand to 2,031 is another important step in our ambitious expansion plans for our UK network.
“We are also proud to open our second Jamboree in the UK following its successful launch in London proving our ability to open stand-alone F&B offerings with our key partners.”
