Probe after fatality at Halewood

POLICE and health and safety offices are investigating a fatal incident at Jaguar Land Rover’s factory at Speke.

An un-named man, a contractor on the sprawling site, was found badly injured on Tuesday and was treated at the scene, but he died a short time later.

Merseyside Police said: “Detectives from Knowsley CID are working to establish the cause of the man’s injuries and the circumstances surrounding how he came by them.

“The investigation, led by Merseyside Police with the assistance of the Health and Safety Executive, is at an early stage however it is believed the victim may have been on the roof of a building prior to being found injured on the floor.  The area where the man was found has been cordoned off and a police investigation is underway.”

A spokesperson for Jaguar Land Rover, said:  “We can confirm that a colleague from a contractor organisation was found seriously injured on site at Halewood Operations.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are not yet clear and is now the subject of an investigation by Merseyside Police.

“We can confirm that this incident was outside the factory and is not related to vehicle manufacturing. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of our colleague at this time.”
