Traffic warning as accident forces M62 closure

TRAFFIC officers are warning of severe disruption this evening.

The M62 is closed at Heywood after a serious accident. Drivers are being advised that the east-bound side of the M62 is likely to remain closed between junctions 18 and 19 into the evening after a collision involving three lorries, a car and a van.

Highways England says its  traffic officers are working with the emergency services at the scene.

The east-bound carriageway is affected by significant diesel spills and the central reservation barrier is badly damaged.

A signed diversion in place, and drivers are being advised to check the latest travel conditions before setting out on journeys at www.trafficengland.com and to use alternative routes.

Lane 3 on the westbound carriageway is also currently closed.
