People: Partner hires for Squire Patton Boggs and Ward Hadaway & more

INTERNATIONAL law firm Squire Patton Boggs has strengthened its Manchester real estate team with the appointment ofpartner Mark Barker, who has joined the firm from DWF.

Barker has more than 25 years’ real estate experience, specialising in development work with particular expertise in strategic and complex regeneration projects. Recommended by the recently published Chambers & Partners UK client guide, he advises public and private sector clients on the successful delivery of major projects.

Nick Green, European Real Estate practice group leader, said: “In Mark we have found an individual with exactly the right blend of ambition and experience to expand our practice.  Manchester is a key centre in the UK commercial real estate market, with a high volume of development work in the city; Mark’s expertise makes him an excellent addition to our very busy team.”

The Manchester team is led by Mark Gaffney and has particular expertise in the chemicals, sport, leisure and hotel sectors. Last year real estate lawyer Jonathan Brooke was promoted to partner.

Barker is the third partner hire in the last 12 months, with Debra Cooper recently joining the financial services team and employment partner Paula Cole joining the firm in May 2015.

LAW firm Ward Hadaway has boosted its team in Manchester with the recruitment of employment partner Stephen Robinson.

Robinson has more than 15 years’ specialist experience advising on a wide range of different employment matters for businesses and individuals. He joins from Laytons, where he spent three years and before that he was partner and head of employment in Liverpool at DLA Piper.

He said: “It is great to be joining a firm which already has a lot of talented people on board but is also ambitious and looking to grow further, not just in the Greater Manchester area but right across the north.”

ELECTIO, the e-commerce delivery management company based in Manchester has appointed Vickey Eggleston as partnership manager as it prepares for further growth in 2016.

Eggleston, who has previously worked for both Yodel and Home Delivery Network, most recently spent three years at MetaPack as a carrier manager.

As partnership manager at Electio, Vickey will work with existing partners such as Hermes, DPD, Royal Mail, Parcelforce and Yodel, and will use her strong relationships within the industry to forge new partnerships.

RECRUITMENT firm Search Consultancy has appointed Phillip Piper as a director in its Manchester office.

In his new role Piper will drive business development across the professional services, digital, change and IT teams.
