Road closures and traffic alerts after heavy snowfall

HIGHWAYS chiefs have issued a severe weather warning for most of the region, after snow storms brought chaos to many routes.

The Snake Pass between Glossop and south Yorkshire is closed, as is the alternative route, The Woodhead Pass, while in east Manchester there are delays on the M67 due to the heavy snow.

The A57 eastbound in Great Manchester is closed between M67/A560 and B6174  due to an incident involving HGV which has got into difficulties. Contractors are on the A57 and using specialist winter treatment vehicles to clear and treat the road.

The A628 (Woodhead pass)  is also closed in both directions.

Among the worst affected parts of the region are Cumbria and Tameside, where some public transport services have already been cancelled.

Highways England has issued a Severe Weather Alert for Snow and advises motorists to take extra care when travelling due to the “increased risk of adverse driving conditions”.
