Constructor appointed for multi-million pound industrial park

BOLTON-based constructor Seddon has been appointed as the main contractor for Aurora Stockport, the town’s newest industrial park.

Selected by Stockport Council following a competitive tender process, Seddon will begin work on the site soon with the first units available for businesses in early 2017.

Aurora Stockport will transform an 18-acre derelict site close to Stockport town centre into a modern 145,000sq ft industrial park comprising 10 light industrial units ranging from 8,700sq ft to 47,000 sq ft.

The development will create a new employment area for Stockport, bringing jobs and opportunities for residents and businesses.

Located alongside junction 1 of the M60 and only eight miles from Manchester Airport, Aurora will give companies the opportunity to run their business from new premises in one of the best connected locations in the North West.

The multi-million pound development is being led by Stockport Council and comes at a time when the demand for industrial units in Stockport continues to increase.

Aurora is one of the Growth projects being undertaken as part of Stockport Council’s Investing in Stockport programme.

The £900m investment programme will see Stockport build on its strengths through a range of ambitious projects, each aimed at making the town an even better place to live, work and visit.

Cllr Patrick McAuley, executive member for thriving economy at Stockport Council said “I am delighted to welcome Seddon Construction to the Aurora Stockport team.  The standard of tenders received was very high and I am confident that Seddon will help us achieve our vision of transforming this area of our town into a thriving industrial park.

“I am excited about how work on our Growth projects is pressing ahead at the moment.  Not only do we have a number of projects on site, but over recent weeks we have been able to make a number of announcements about companies such as Holiday Inn Express investing in the town centre.

“The fact the first units at Aurora Stockport will be available in early 2017 will help our town grow even further.”

“Aurora Stockport is a unique development, which Seddon is thrilled to be part of” said Ed Wootton, Seddon’s regional director of North West Construction.

“Seddon have always been committed to investing in our people.  The prospects for providing training and employment opportunities across the supply chain during this build are fundamental to our core values.  Along with the long term plan to transform the site into a thriving area for local businesses, this project will provide a strong contribution to the Investing in Stockport programme.”

CBRE have been appointed as agents for Aurora Stockport with Stockport Council’s property partners Carillion and CBRE acting for the Council as development manager and project managers.
