1,500 jobs to be created as new builds soar for firm

BARRATT Developments says its activities will lead to the creation of around 1,500 jobs across the North West in 2016 as more than 900 homes are built.

That brings the total number of homes to be built in the region by Barratt, which incorporates both Barratt Homes Manchester and David Wilson Homes North West, to around 1,400.

Barratt and DWH already have a large number of developments in the North West including Cottam Meadow in Preston, Winnington Village in Northwich and Blundell’s Wood in Chorley.

The new developments include The Spinnings in Kirkham, Tarleton Lock, Tarleton, Haddington Park, Tarporley and Stapeley Gardens, Nantwich.

The group predominately employs local sub-contractors and tradesmen – so local businesses and people will benefit directly from the jobs.

Barratt’s expansion plans coincide with the company receiving a major national award from the Home Builders Federation (HBF). The house builder has achieved a 90% customer satisfaction score and a five-star rating after it took part in a nationwide survey of 45,000 homebuyers.

Barratt Developments is the only major national housebuilder to have been awarded the maximum 5 star rating for seven years in a row.

Barratt Developments Central Region managing director Bernard Rooney said: “We have seen demand for new homes expand very quickly over the year and the new sites we are opening mean that there will be more choice for local buyers.

“A buoyant housing market is good news for the local economy as in addition to the local construction jobs created by building the new homes, the local people who move into the new housing will also spend their wages locally.  This means a significant boost for local retailers as well.  It’s exactly what this area needs.”
