Supermarket giant’s anger at ‘no-Scousers’ advert

SUPERMARKET giant Morrisons says it has been angered by a casting call which excluded people from Liverpool.
The advert, believed to be from agency Casting Networks Inc, appeared under the project name “Morrisons” and said it wanted to cast “proper working class people” for the forthcoming project.
However, there has been backlash because the advert said actors from Liverpool should not apply.
The text says: “These films will focus largely on facial expressions. Therefore it is vital their faces have character – something interesting and captivating that will make the film watchable.
“They should be proper working class people but not at all like the people from ‘Benefits Street’. They should NOT sound or look posh and we should skew towards northern accents. And nobody from Liverpool please.”
A Morrisons spokesman said today: “We are angry and we apologise that a third party has published a statement using our name without our knowledge.
“Everyone is welcome at Morrisons and we work really hard to ensure our marketing represents the whole of the nation.”
Morrisons also said it did not post the advert and was investigating and that Casting Networks Inc was not its advertising agency and the non-Scouse directive was not something it had requested to its own advertising agency.
Casting Networks Inc, on its website, describes itself as “a software company dedicated to providing business solutions for entertainment professionals.
“By creating tools for communication, scheduling, media management, marketing, career development, and talent scouting, we are streamlining some of the most complex processes facing the industry and creating an environment that will make it easier for these professionals to find work and get their jobs done.”
