Orleans House residential scheme gets green light

BRUNTWOOD has had a residential scheme at Orleans House in Liverpool accepted by the city’s planning officials.

The scheme will see the Grade II*-listed office building on Edmund Street, in Liverpool’s commercial district, converted into 71 high-specification apartments with basement parking facilities.

Colin Forshaw, head of property at Bruntwood, said: “Orleans House is a beautiful, historic building and the decision to convert it to a residential property was taken once we had fully explored all other options.

“As a business, we are committed to the local built environment and therefore ruled out any options that involved us either leaving the building vacant or selling it to a third party and losing control over its long term heritage.

“We are confident that our plans to create a high-end city dwelling, while retaining the building’s character, will revitalise its fortunes for many years to come.

“We also hope its renaissance will play a key role in wider plans to create a vibrant cluster of residential and commercial spaces around the Cotton Quarter and in turn provide a catalyst to accelerate the day and night time economy of the commercial district.”
