Contractor appointed to build £18.5m car park

A CONTRACTOR has appointed for the construction of the new multi-storey car park which forms part of Warrington’s £107m Time Square regeneration scheme.

Warrington Borough Council has chosen I & H Brown, based in the town to carry out the £18.5m work to build the eight-storey 1,150-space car park.

Planning approval was granted for the multi-storey car park earlier this year and work is expected to start on site in 2016 with completion anticipated for October 2017.

Situated in Winwick Quay, I & H Brown’s regional office has been in Warrington for over a decade and in 2014 the firm celebrated 50 years in the construction, civil engineering and development business. The company employs over 250 staff that work on a wide range of projects throughout the UK.

The Time Square regeneration scheme –driven and delivered by Warrington & Co on behalf of Warrington Borough Council with development manager Muse Developments – will create up to 400 construction jobs and 400 new permanent jobs in the leisure, retail and restaurant sectors when the whole project is fully completed in 2019.

The first element of the Time Square regeneration scheme was started earlier this year by local contractor CPUK with the start on site of the construction of the temporary market building – the retail unit that will temporarily house the market hall.

The market will move into this temporary location in 2017 whilst the new, permanent 31,150sq ft. covered market hall is being constructed.

Steve Park, managing director of Warrington & Co said: “We are delighted about the appointment of I & H Brown – a local construction specialist that has experience of both the region and with working on similar large scale projects.

“The construction of the multi-storey car park is an important part of the Time Square regeneration scheme as it will provide a new and attractive asset that will underpin and support the whole scheme.”

I & H Brown managing director (England & Wales) Nigel Taylor said: “We are pleased to be associated with this prestigious project in our home town of Warrington. We are Warrington based employing localised supply chain and employees retaining the public pound within the Warrington realm.
