IT’S a sad truism of journalism that bad news sells.
This week it was the unfortunate demise of BHS which grabbed the headlines across our regional sites.
The loss of 11,000 jobs in the biggest retail collapse since Woolworths folded in 2008 is an indication that if high street retailers fail to adapt to a changing landscape where online competitors are enjoying an ever-increasing market share, there is only one result.
Similarly, in second place Bentley Motors suffered a 23% reduction in sales of its cars and went £41m into the red with the wane popularity of its models in China and the Middle East blamed for the demise.
Happily, our audience hooked on to some more cheerful news with the story that The Hut Group acquired high-end US and Australian competitor Salu Beauty in advance of its expected flotation in 2017.
