Law firm to help Rooney distribute charity funds

LAW firm Brabners has been appointed to act for Wayne Rooney Foundation, a charitable incorporated organisation recently established to distribute funds raised during the England and Manchester United star’s testimonial year.

The year will include a number of high profile events, including a testimonial match between Manchester United and Everton, to be played at Old Trafford on August 3 – the first home game to be played under new manager Jose Mourinho.

All funds raised will be distributed by the trust to Rooney’s chosen charities – the NSPCC, which last year named him as its first ambassador for childhood to acknowledge his work on their behalf, Alder Hey Childrens’ Hospital and Claire House Hospice.

Also benefiting will be the Manchester United Foundation, which works with children and young people from deprived areas in and around Greater Manchester.

Sports lawyer Maurice Watkins, head of the sports team at Brabners and a former director of Manchester United, said: “Wayne Rooney is widely acknowledged as one of the finest players of his generation.

“It is only fitting that his talent has been acknowledged with a testimonial year.  Matches like this at Old Trafford are always special but this one will have an extra dimension of excitement as the first one under the new manager.”

Nik White, the Brabners partner who heads up its commercial department and is leading the Brabners team working with Wayne Rooney Foundation added: “I am sure it will be a fantastic testimonial year which should raise significant funds for the charities chosen by Wayne, all of which are extremely important for the work they do with and for children.”
