AMS ‘making excellent progress’

CHESHIRE medical technology company Advanced Medical Solutions Group, which uses ingredients as diverse as silver and seaweed to speed-up the healing process after surgery, said today it had continued to thrive in the second half of the year.

In a pre-close trading update for the year to December 31 the Winsford-based company said it had continued to make “excellent” progress in the second half of the year, and would benefit from the recent slump in the value of the pound.

Chairman Dr Geoffrey Vernon said: “‘The business has continued to make excellent progress during the second half of the year and I am pleased to report that the group is trading at the top end of market expectations for the full year 2008.

“During 2009, whilst a portion of the company’s dollar exposure is already locked in, the company expects to obtain some benefit from a favourable dollar based exchange rate.

“The outlook remains positive with the business continuing to make good progress with all of its key growth drivers.”

Dr Vernon said the company’s product which uses silver had continued to make good progress, winning new approvals from the US regulators.

Tiny amounts of the precious metal are used the manufacture of the dressing as it has proven to be highly effective in preventing infections such as MRSA.

Full year results will be be announced in March. Last year AMS posted a profit of £1.5m on turnover of £16.9m.

Last summer AMS said it would be investing £4m in a new headquarters in the Cheshire town.
