Record results for major constructor

GRAHAM Consruction – which runs its North of England operations from offices in Salford Quays – has announced record end-of-year results.

GRAHAM, the construction, asset management and project investment businesses, posted turnover passing the half-billion mark at £508m in 2015-16, with profit before taxation more than doubling to £17m, resulting in a net profit margin of 3.4% up from 1.4% the previous year.

GRAHAM Construction’s Northern office is currently delivering more than £50m worth of projects across the region, including the Murrays’ Mill residential development in Ancoats – part of Manchester Life Development Company’s £1bn 10-year transformation plan – Chester’s new £13.5m bus interchange, the transformation of Piece Hall in Halifax and the £9m refurbishment of Calderdale College.

Gary Hughes, regional director for North of England, said: “The past 12 months have been very successful, with a large number of projects delivered, work ongoing on various developments and a strong pipeline of work across a number of sectors.

“Alongside this we have employed 19 new members of staff in the past year, achieved two Considerate Constructors Scheme awards and signed up to the Be Fair scheme, to promote equality and diversity within our workplace.

“Our reputation for honesty, quality and collaboration continues to grow across the North West and North of England, supporting our growth in key sectors such as PRS, education and health.

“We are also continuing to build a strong core workforce, from experienced construction professionals to keen young apprentices – each has played their part in our success to date.”

GRAHAM’s Salford office has grown from a team of three when it launched in 2013 to employing 73 people – including eight office-based apprentices.

Through Manchester Life, GRAHAM has also employed a number of project-based apprentices from the region and is developing their skills in conjunction with Manchester College.

Executive chairman, Michael Graham, said: “This is a significant milestone and one which demonstrates how our group businesses continue to deliver exceptionally strong performances, across a range of sectors.

“None of this would be possible without the dedication and commitment of our 1,800 strong workforce, on which GRAHAM’s success is built.”
