Your top 10: Longest ever delay at airport, recruitment pre-pack, interest rates but don’t mention the Northern Powerhouse…

IT MIGHT not strictly be business news but we thought you’d want to be the first to know when we heard that police had been called in at Manchester Airport on Monday, after a flight out of Manchester Airport to Corfu was delayed more than 38 hours – the longest ever delay at the airport.
At least 300 passengers, including holidaymakers stranded in Corfu, were believed to be affected by the technical fault on one of two aircraft run by Small Planet Airlines and it all got very heated, apparently.
Talking of feeling the heat, distressed Warrington business Foresight Recruitment Solutions has been bought by a £70m turnover recruitment group in a pre-pack deal.
Pre-packs are often controversial, particularly when they involve firms that don’t hold any real assets as is often the case with recruiters.
But this deal saved 21 jobs and, according to the new owner, all suppliers and workers have been fully paid up to date.
Finally, on Thursday came the long-awaited and largely expected interest rate cut to a record low – the first rate change in seven years.
Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of England, said the UK’s economy needed to find a “new equilibrium” as its moves itself out of the European Union.
I’m sure we are all looking forward to finding out what the economic policy “reset” promised by new Chancellor Philip Hammond will look like. Will it contain the words ‘Northern Powerhouse’?.. answers on a postcard please.
