10 things you didn’t know you can do in Liverpool

The Cavern Club, check. Seen a show at The Empire, check. Walked around an exhibition at The Tate, check. Now what? If you didn’t realise, Liverpool is one of the coolest cities in not just the UK, but the world. There are hundreds of things to do every single day for lone rangers, couples, families and friendship groups. The Old Dock

1. Tour the old dock
You may have walked around Liverpool One, but have you ever given much thought to what is underneath? The Old Dock has been preserved under the modern shopping district and you can see the bed of the Pool which is the creek that gave Liverpool its name. The Old Dock was discovered 15 years ago and it is now publicly accessible. The tours are free and take place every Tuesday and Wednesday. Find out more here.

 

 

 

The World Museum2. Head to space
The World Museum in the city centre is also home to a planetarium which has something cool for each family member. The planetarium has a range of shows available to see and take part in, including the Sunshine show, which is aimed at under five-year-olds, the Earth, moon and sun show which explores eclipse and lunar phrases and The sky at night show, which looks at the myths and constellations of the night sky. Exit Strategy3. Real life crystal maze
Exit Strategy, which is based in an underground studio on Victoria Street in the city centre, is a fun interactive game which is set within a story inside its own room. Explore each room and find hidden objects and clues which will lead to your escape! LIPA4. See the future faces
You may have thought that you had seen all you had to see in Liverpool’s theatres, but you thought wrong! LIPA students put a whole range of shows throughout the year at extremely affordable prices. For students, they are an incredibly talented lot and it is worth heading down to see a show or two to support their work. Find out what’s on here.

 

 

 

Bongos Bingo5. Play bingo
…But not as you’ve known it before. Bongo’s Bingo takes over Camp and Furnace in the Baltic Triangle every Thursday night and is somewhere between a good old game of bingo and a crazy techno rave! There are DJ’s, dance offs, cash prizes and even occasional special guests. Special guests in the past have included the one and only David Hasselhoff and 90s group Vengaboys. Anglican Cathedral6. See Liverpool in panoramic

FACT in Liverpool offers a range of things to do with the kids throughout the week and over the weekend. The centre offers the ‘Big Scream’ which is designed to offer parents the chance to visit the cinema without needing a babysitter. The Climbing Hangar8. Fall in love with climbing
The Climbing Hangar, which is on Birchall Street just out of the city centre, is the perfect place to head to if you’ve ever liked the idea of climbing. Whether you’re a beginner or a professional, the centre offers walls for all abilities. Head along in some comfortable clothes and shoes and chalk are available to hire at the venue. Shiverpool9. Meet the ghosts of the city
If you haven’t heard, Liverpool is actually full of tales of ghosts and spooky tales. You can learn about it for yourself and see some of the most haunted city centre destinations on a Shiverpool tour. The tours run all year and give those who dare to go on them a chance to learn about a different side of the city. The Auld City tour ends with a scary maze journey through abandoned bank vaults under Castle Street and Hop Street Shivers goes along the spooky street and includes both Cathedrals, the infamous Rodney Street and The Irish Centre.
