City gets 24/7 bus service on busiest routes

ARRIVA and Stagecoach Merseyside have launched a 24-hour bus service in Liverpool on two of their busiest routes in a boost to evening revellers and shift workers.

The services will run from 12.30am to 5am seven-day-a-week, before the daytime service begins again at 5am for Arriva and 6.30am for Stagecoach.

The 86 bus will run from Liverpool One to Penny Lane, whilst the 86A will travel from South Parkway to John Lennon Airport.

This extension of transport hours is part of an initiative which aims to encourage people to take the bus.

Operations director at Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire, Rob Jones said: “The 86 is one of our busiest routes and this extended service will no doubt be particularly welcome for commuters, students and people enjoying Liverpool’s great nightlife.”

Tom Farrell, managing director at Arriva Merseyside added: “It’s great to be improving access both for city residents and those visiting from further afield and offering a brilliant 24/7 service.”

Buses make up 80% of public transport journeys in the Liverpool city region and it is the role of City Region Bus Alliance to try and increase that number.

Increased use of public transport in the region will grow the economy, better linking people with jobs, education and leisure.
