Your top 10 – an inspiring tale, legal moves and jobs growth

NUMBER three in our hit parade this week has to be my favourite story of the year so far.

Little did I know when I went meet Rothschild’s director Bod Buckley for lunch at Piccolinos in Manchester that I’d leave three hours later, reeling from one of the most personal and inspiring interviews of my career.

Bod, who is just 38, had his life forever changed on Christmas Eve 2014, when the dealmaker who had advised AO.com on its stock market listing just 10 months earlier, was told he had a brain tumour.

I won’t relay his story here but do urge you to read it – a truly inspiring reminder to never give up.

He’s completing a 300-mile bike ride from London to Paris to raise funds for The Brain Tumour Charity today (Sunday). You can donate here .

The best read story of the week was one making waves amongst the legal community – news that  the former head of Shoosmiths’ Manchester office has moved to Addleshaw Goddard.

Harold Brako, who was responsible for setting up the Shoosmiths’ Manchester office in 2009, is listed as a leading individual in Chambers, and is seen as the ‘go to’ lawyer for asset based lending work.

In at number two was a story about a multi-million pound investment by private equity firm LDC, which will in time create 100 jobs.

£11m-turnover business services firm Ellis Whittam provides advisory and fully-outsourced employment law, HR and health & safety services.

The company employs 165 staff from its headquarters near Chester but says that the investment from LDC will see staff numbers grow over the next four years. Good news!
