Fireworks fest set to ignite fun in Blackpool

SPARKS will fly tonight for the Annual World Firework Championships in Lancashire seaside resort Blackpool as pyrotechnic teams from all over the globe vie for supremacy.
The championships in Blackpool took off with a bang last week as Australia’s Skylighter FireworX kicked off proceedings.
Three teams are competing this year in an attempt to win the prestigious prize and steal the title from Canada’s Feux D’Artifice Orion.
This weekend, Australia will be followed by Slovakia’s Privatex Pyro, which was set up more than 15 years ago and has already won over 20 awards.
The last showcase will be from America’s Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks on October 23, which was founded over a century ago and is based in Loveland, Ohio.
Cllr Gillian Campbell, deputy leader of Blackpool Council, said: “It’s fantastic to continue to host such a prestigious event and I look forward to seeing the teams in actions this year.”
The winner will be announced on Friday, October 30 and will be accompanied by a celebratory display by the UK’s team, Titanium Fireworks.
On the judging panel will be Cllr Gillian Campbell, Peter Sedgewick, who owns Blackpool’s piers, and Cheryl Tchobanian from The Beach House Bistro and Bar on The Promenade, who are sponsoring the judging area.
This year’s championships will be hosted in association with Rock FM who will provide entertainment on the night.
Following the event, three special displays designed for LightPool, part of the Blackpool Illuminations, will see 3D projections stun those at the bottom of Blackpool Tower.
Each event will take place on October 16, 23 and 30, starting at 7.30pm between the north and central piers.
