Artist Romero Britto to make exclusive appearance

BRAZILIAN-born artist Romero Britto will make his first appearance outside of London at Castle Art Gallery, King Street, on Tuesday October 18.

An exhibition of his work, including limited editions and sculptures, will run at the gallery from October 11 to 19 and is free of charge.

Britto will be one of the first artists to exhibit at the gallery, one of Castle Fine Art’s latest ventures, which opened in August this year as the flagship gallery in the North.

Ian Weatherby-Blythe, managing director, said: “Romero Britto is one of the most celebrated artists of our time – expressionistic and vibrant, his work is universal.

“Drawing upon Cubist and Pop Art influences, Britto has created a new and inspiring trademark style recognised the world over.

“We are thrilled to welcome such an important name in contemporary art to our fantastic new gallery on King Street which promises to redefine the way you experience, view and buy art.”

A self-taught artist Britto took inspiration from Matisse and Picasso in his youth, before moving to Miami were he made his name.

This year, he was an honorary torchbearer at the Rio Olympics as a result of his charity work.

His work has been exhibited in more than 30 countries across the world, including at The Louvre in Paris in 2008 and 2010.

He has created public art installations for the 02 Dome in Berlin, John F Kennedy Airport in New York and Cirque Du Soleil at Superbowl XLI.

In his Pop-Art and Cubist style, he has created portraits of the Queen, the Virgin Mary, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Madonna and Lady Gaga, among many others.
