£1bn Trafford Waters scheme set to get green light

THE £1bn Trafford Waters scheme in Greater Manchester scheme is expected to get the green light from planners at a special meeting later today (Thursday, October 13).

Trafford councillors are odds on to nod through Peel Land and Property’s scheme for 3,000 apartments, a 300-room hotel, a 150-bed care home, shops, offices and a primary school.

The development borders the Manchester Ship Canal in the north, Grade I-listed All Saints Friary in the north east and the Trafford Centre to the south.

It incorporates approximately 750,000 sq ft of office space and 125,000 sq ft of retail space, which will be linked to the shopping centre by bridge.

James Whittaker, development director for the firm, said: “We have been working on the vision and masterplan for Trafford Waters for over 15 years.

“We believe it offers an excellent opportunity for a disused site to become a home for a new community.”

Peel is also behind a plan to create a championship golf course able to host the Ryder Cup tournament and 1,200 homes at the historic Hulton Park Estate near Bolton.
