MSP on board with global medical technology event in US
MANCHESTER Science Partnerships is set to showcase its £60m investment into Citylabs, the biomedical centre of excellence in Manchester, at the world’s leading medical technology event in the US.
It has joined a high-level trade delegation from the city attending AdvaMed in Minneapolis.
MSP’s recently-promoted managing director Tom Renn and head of partnerships and innovation Anne Dornan, are joining the city region’s inward investment agency MIDAS, Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Manchester and other partners from Health Innovation Manchester at the global event.
AdvaMed is a long-established conference and exhibition leading efforts to advance medical technology around the world. More than 2,300 delegates from 900 companies and organisations attended the 2015 event.
Manchester Science Partnerships is ploughing its money into Citylabs over the next five years.
Renn said: “We launched Citylabs 2.0 and 3.0 this summer at ESOF, when the scientific world came to Manchester, so it is important and appropriate that we continue to showcase Manchester’s attributes as a hub for science, clinical research, collaboration and of course commercialisation to a global audience.
“AdvaMed is a great opportunity to network and showcase our developments and highlight the success of Citylabs 1.0 – which is fully let.
“We’ll be talking about how the businesses there have grown and benefitted from being able to access the research and clinical trial capabilities that Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) provides.
“The key message is that Manchester can offer international healthcare and life sciences businesses not only great physical facilities but a stimulating, collaborative and enterprising clinical environment.
“Our investment in expanding Citylabs will provide significant additional space and enable biomedical companies to grow and co-create new health products, in collaboration with the NHS and academia,” he added.
After visiting Minneapolis the Manchester delegation will then head to Chicago then Boston, as part of a roadshow in conjunction with the Department for International Trade.
