Plans on show for 12-storey block in city’s £2bn Knowledge Quarter

A BLUEPRINT for a major new university building as part of Liverpool City Council’s £2bn plan to expand the Knowledge Quarter goes on show today.

Liverpool International College is aiming to build a 12-storey tower and accommodation for 260 students on part of the old Archbishop Blanch School site, off Grove Street.

Typically, overseas students who have left school are brought to Liverpool every year by LIC and they are prepared for study at the University of Liverpool.

LIC is a partnership between international training firm Kaplan and the University of Liverpool, under the university name.

In the area, branded Paddington Village, there will also be a new building to house the Royal College of Physicians.

The plans will be exhibited at a public consultation session at the Foresight Centre at the university today (Tuesday October 18).

A planning application is due to be submitted next month and, subject to council approval, to start work on the project by Easter.

It will take 20 months to build. The builders will also be carrying out a survey of the disused Waterloo rail tunnel that runs under the site.
