Bonfire Night 2016: The best events in the North West

REMEMBER, remember, the fifth of November? Like we could forget it. The North West is set to be lit up with blazing bonfires and fantastic firework displays this weekend, here are a selection of the ones closest to you this Saturday and Sunday evening…

Greater Manchester

Heaton Park – Saturday November 5 – Free
The bonfire will begin at 7.30pm and will be closely followed by fireworks at the park. The event will also have a funfair taking place from 5-9pm.

Chorlton – Saturday November 5 – Free
The Horse and Jockey pub will celebrate with a children’s firework display on Chorlton Green at 7pm, with another one for adults at 9pm. There will also be a barbeque taking place all night as well as an outdoor bar.

Trafford Centre – Sunday November 6 – Free
The shopping centre’s fireworks display will begin in Barton Square at 6.30pm and will be choreographed to a musical soundtrack. Perfect if you fancy having a bite to eat or are shopping in the late afternoon with the family.

Urmston – Saturday November 5 – £5 for adults and £3 for children
Starting at 6pm, Abbotsfield Park’s bonfire and fireworks display will run until 9pm. There will be food and charity stalls as well as a children’s fun fair.

Wigan – Saturday November 5 – £10/£8 on the door. Children aged four and under go free.
The fireworks display at Haigh Hall, running from 6-10pm, will feature live music from Irish folk band Beward Of The Pig as well as gourmet food and drinks from the Haigh Kitchen Courtyard.

Merseyside

Liverpool – Saturday November 5 – Free
The River of Light Festival will begin at 4pm, with celebrations including street entertainers. World famous drummers Les Commandos Percu and Deabru Beltzak will set off from Liverpool Town Hall at 5.30, with the firework display taking place on the iconic waterfront from 6.30pm.

Southport – Saturday November 5 – Free
Southport Pleasureland is putting on a bonfire and firework display as well as evening of rides and fun. The bonfire will begin at 6pm and fireworks will get started an hour later. There will also be food and drink available from the Sega arcade.

St Helens – Sunday November 6 -£3
Sutton Cricket Club will be putting on their first ever firework display on Sunday night with fairground rides, food, a licensed bar and entertainment throughout the evening.

Warrington – Saturday November 5 – £25.95
Gulliver’s World Warrington will be putting an extra special firework display this year with special guests including a range of music acts. Visitors can also enjoy all the rides and attractions as well as the display itself. Ticket prices will also include a meal.

Wirral – Sunday November 6 – Free
This year, Wirral Council has slashed its number of fireworks displays to just two. They will both be taking place from 6.30pm at both Birkenhead Park and Lingham Park in Moreton.

Lancashire

Lancaster – Friday November 4 and Saturday November 5
Lancaster will be celebrating the weekend with a festival of light and art in their annual ‘Light Up Lancaster’ event, with exciting things taking place across the city. The event will see thousands of locals taking part in an illuminating art trail that will end with a firework display. However, there are also a whole range of other events for the whole family to enjoy.

Blackpool – Saturday November 5 – £3
Blackpool Cricket Club will host its annual event on Saturday with a 25 minute display, as well as a huge bonfire being lit. There will also be food and bars as well as stalls, face painters, live music and other activities to enjoy. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm, with fireworks beginning at 7.45pm.

Burnley – Saturday November 5
Burnley Council will be host to a community bonfire and firework display at Towneley Park on Saturday night. As well as the bonfire and fireworks, there will be a funfair and refreshments available too. The funfair will open at 6pm and there will be junior fireworks at 7:15pm, with the main firework display being held at 8:15pm. The Bonfire will be lit at 6:45pm.

Fleetwood – Saturday November 5
The fireworks display at Marine Hall Gardens is due to begin at 7.30pm. There will also be live music from local band Jepps and other entertainment as well as a variety of food and drink to enjoy.

Chorley – Saturday November 5 – £4 for adults, £2 for children
This year’s bonfire and firework display will be held at Lancashire Fire Service Training Centre in Euxton on Saturday evening. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm, with a firework display from 7:30pm. Gates open from 5:30pm.

Cheshire

Chester – Saturday November 5 – £5, children under 7 are free
The Chester Lions Firework Fun Night at Chester Racecourse will kick off at 5pm, with toddler’s fireworks from 6.45pm and the main display from 7.30pm. There will also be a funfair, food to enjoy and live music.

Christleton – Saturday November 5 – £5 for adults, £3 for children
Taking place at The Plough Inn, ‘The Crocky’ firework display will involve music, lasers, bars and refreshments. Gates will open at 6pm, with fireworks starting from 7.30pm.

Winsford – Saturday November 5 – £6 for adults, £3 for children
The Rotary Club of Winsford and Middlewich are putting on a firework display in aid of local charities and organisations at Barton Stadium. Gates open at 6pm.

Cholmondeley – Saturday November 5 – Free
The Cholmondeley Arms will start at 6.30pm and as well as a bonfire and firework display, there will be live music, barbecue and even a pop-up gin bar.

Saughall – Sunday November 6 – £3 entry, under 5’s free
Saughall Colts JFC annual bonfire and fireworks display will take place at the Greyhound Inn. As well as the bonfire, which will begin at 6.30pm, there will also be a firework display from 7pm with a bar, BBQ and stalls at the event too. Gates open at 6pm.
