Festive boost for tram services

A BOOST to tram services on the Altrincham, Bury, East Didsbury and Oldham tram lines in Greater Manchester is being put into effect by operator Metrolink.

From today, (Monday 7 November) though to Friday 23 December, double trams will run on every weekday Bury to Etihad Campus and Altrincham to Piccadilly service, rather than on the Bury-Altrincham direct service, offering more capacity throughout the day.

Double trams will also run on weekday East Didsbury-Shaw & Crompton services between 7am and 7pm.

Quick and easy connections to Piccadilly, Victoria and beyond will continue to be available on single trams running from East Didsbury to Deansgate-Castlefield, and Rochdale to Exchange Square.

Cllr Andrew Fender, Chair of the Transport for Greater Manchester Committee, said: “This is great news for both commuters and leisure travellers, particularly in the busy run up to Christmas.

“We constantly monitor demand to travel across the tram network, listen to feedback from our customers and look for improvements. I’m very pleased we’ve been able to provide this festive boost.”
